RESEARCH EXPERIENCE/INTERESTS

  • Around five years research experience of preparation, characterization and measurement of structural (MBE, LEED, MEED, AES & STM) and magnetic properties (MOKE) of ultra-thin single crystalline films in ultra-high vacuum (UHV) chamber during my PhD as well as after PhD at AG Kuch, Institut für Experimental Physik, FB Physik, Freie Universität Berlin, Germany.
  • Atomistic simulation on an open source software package known as VAMPIRE for getting new results as well as for verification/justification of experimental results of nanoscopic magnetic systems such as ultrathin single crystalline magnetic films including multilayers and surfaces and magnetic nanoparticles.
  • DFT-based calculations to obtain physical properties of semiconducting and magnetic materials.
  • More than 14 years experience of supervising research students in preparation and characterization of nanomagnetic materials and their simulations.
  • One year MPhil research experience in the field of “Thermal Physics” at Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad, Pakistan.

I can briefly describe my research interests as following: I conduct research based on experiments and simulations into magnetic ultrathin films and multilayer systems, surfaces, nanostructures/nanoparticles as well as that into semiconducting materials. Alongside preparation facility of magnetic particles and reducing their size down to nanometers using Ball Mill, I have at my disposal Magneto Optical Kerr Effect (MOKE) to get the magnetic hysteresis loop of the thin films or magnetic nanoparticles. Also, I have the simulation facility of the magnetic thin films or magnetic nanoparticles using an atomistic simulator known as VAMPIRE. The aim of my overall work is to (i) perform fundamental research into innovative functional properties that are relevant to applications in magnetic data storage, for magnetic sensors, and in magnetic electronics, (ii) magnetic properties particularly magnetic heating of biocompatible and biodegradable nanoparticles to be used in magnetic hyperthermia treatment of cancer, (iii) preparation and measurement of some structural and physical properties of semiconducting materials for energy storage supercapacitors and their DFT-based calculations.

For my future research work, I will be happy to continue working on similar lines of conducting experimental and simulation work on magnetic  (single crystalline thin films and magnetic nanoparticles) and semiconducting materials. Simultaneously, I am not tied to a particular technique or materials and, therefore, I would like to learn and investigate both experimental and computational aspects of technologically relevant materials while utilizing my expertise and knowledge of Physics and Material Science.
