Institute of Management Science is the pioneer institute at the Kohat University of Science and Technology, as it was established at the very onset of the university. It began its journey in November 2001 with only forty students and two faculty members at strength. Today, it is the most populous institute of the university with more than one thousand students and 27 faculty members. The institute offers degree programs at the undergraduate (BBA and MBA) and graduate (Master of Science) with majors in finance, Human Resources Management, Marketing and Entrepreneurship, and plans to introduce doctoral programs in the future.View items
The Institute of Education and Research was established in 2001 with B.Ed Program. The success of B.Ed Program and also pushed by the needs of locals, Master in Education (One Year) program was launched in 2003. The institute kept on flourishing and M.Phil program was started in 2005 after fulfilling all the requirements of HEC. Building upon the success of M.Phil program, PhD program was initiated in 2007. All these milestones were achieved with help of motivated, diligent and workaholic faculty members and the staff.
Recently B.Ed four years program, in compliance with HEC guidelines, has been launched at IER. The program is accredited by National Accreditation Council of Teacher Education (NACTE).

The Department of English (Language and Literature) was set up in 2007. It is now one of the largest departments in the university. Currently, it offers two programmes: MA English & BS English. The department also intends to launch MS/MPhil and PhD (Language & Literature) programmes in near future. The curricula of the above mentioned programmes have been designed following new trends and developments in the discipline of English. Hence, the courses are challenging, interesting, and intellectually stimulating. In other words, the programmes are meant for rigorous training in the field of Linguistics and English Literature providing students with a sound theoretical knowledge harmonized with hands on practice in the form of exhaustive activities carried out during the study. The department holds a vibrant outlook with highly skilled, qualified, and self-motivated faculty.
Ever since its genesis, the department has been vivacious in all its academic activities. It is an excellent English Language and Literature learning centre maintaining its strong commitment to embracing the needs of a diverse range of students by focusing on their personal, academic and professional grooming. Furthermore, it houses a full-fledged Language Laboratory aiming to promote students’ language skills. The goal of quality teaching is attained by modern teaching techniques and state-of-the-art technology available in language laboratory and computer-assisted programs. In turn, the department produces potential learners with a creative, analytical and reflective bent of mind and sound communication skills enabling them to fulfill their academic, socio-cultural and economic needs. The department also organizes research-oriented talks and workshops for the professional development of its faculty and students. It is noteworthy that the department keeps itself abreast of academic and pedagogical requirements through its various programmes by being in line with the HEC policies. It has been more than a decade since the establishment of Department of Economics. Over the years, it has become one of the most appealing and fastest growing departments of Faculty of Social Sciences; in terms its graduates, in pursuit of higher studies, ability to get enrolled in prestigious institutions of higher education, and employability.
Our faculty is highly qualified and experienced. A significant number of which is foreign qualified, with specialization in diverse and emerging fields of Economics. Our faculty is committed to provide quality education through class room learning and research.
Currently, the Department is offering Undergraduate (4-years B.S, and 2-year Masters Programs in Economics) and Graduate (M. Phil in Economics) Programs. Soon, the department will launch Ph. D. Established in 2007, the Department of Journalism & Mass Communication provides student the opportunity to enhance their learning in media studies and communication. The Department specializes in electronic media, print media & social media. Moreover state of the art labs for television and radio have been established to enhance practical skills of students. The Department also runs it’s own F.M radio station, which provides a number of opportunities to students willing to make careers in media industry. The need of Social Sciences was realized in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan right from its independence but the idea of doing good to the needy persons of the society and well-being of the underprivileged is prevalent in the basic teachings of the great religion Islam and of the Holy Prophet Muhammad Peace Be Upon Him. When Pakistan came into being in 1947, it has faced many problems such as lack of resources, lack of manpower, various Social Problems like poverty, illiteracy, poor health, unemployment, crime, child labour, beggary, agricultural problem etc. The experts from United Nations were invited in early 1950. They worked out the strategy and advised the Government to introduce the subject of Social Work at Graduate and Postgraduate level. It is an applied Social Science where the students are taught the basic methods to help the people and organize them to help themselves in solving their problems at individual, group and community level.
In 1953, the subject of Social Work was started in the University of Punjab, in 1956 in the University of Karachi, in 1974 in the University of Quetta- Baluchistan, and in December 1976 in the University of Peshawar. Similarly, the subject of Sociology was introduced in Pakistani Universities at various times and finally in 1982 the Department of Social Work University of Peshawar started Postgraduate degree programme in sociology also. In 1994 the Discipline of Sociology got independent status as Department of Sociology and Social Anthropology at the University of Peshawar in this province. While considering the importance and need of Social Work and Sociology, Kohat University of Science & Technology (KUST) decided to introduce these subjects, and the Department of Social Work and Sociology was established in September 2007.View items
