Admission Procedure/ Rules for MPhil /MS and PhD

The MPhil/MS and Ph.D. Programmes in various disciplines shall be advertised by the Admissions and Student Affairs Section in the National Press.

  1. Application for admission shall be submitted online prescribed form on or before the last date of form submission. The application form must be supported by the attested photocopies of the previous Certificates/Degrees /DMCs/ Transcripts, valid result card of GAT General(NTS)/ GRE (International) Subject (ETS)/ GAT-Subject (NTS), Domicile, CNIC of the candidate and of his/her father/guardian and any other documents as mentioned in the advertisement or as mentioned in the prescribed online application form.
  2. The concerned Departmental Academic/ Admission Committee shall scrutinize the application forms in light of the prescribed eligibility criteria and shall prepare a merit list of eligible candidates which will be displayed/ uploaded on the concerned department/ institute/center noticeboard/ university website with copy to the concerned Dean and Director Academics/Admissions and Student Affairs Section.
  3. After entertaining the queries/ objections by the concerned Departmental Academic Committee and if necessary, the merit list will be revised.
  4. The list of provisionally admitted candidates will be displayed/uploaded on the notice board/ website, the candidates will appear in person before the Departmental Academic/Admission Committee for verification of original documents and will deposit the admission fee as per prescribed schedule. Those who fail to appear before the Committee along with original documents/ deposit the admission fee as per prescribed schedule, his/her provisional admission will stand cancel and the vacant seat(s) shall be filled up from the waiting list and the list(s) so prepared will be displayed/uploaded on the notice board/ website and the candidates will be admitted as per procedure mentioned above.
  5. Relevant Master degree or equivalent (after 16-year education) or 4-year education after intermediate (minimum 124 to 136 credit hours), with first division or a CGPA of 2.50 on the scale of 4.00 from HEC recognized university/ degree awarding institution, with not less than 45% marks in any examination. Note: In case of admission to MPhil in English Language and Literature, 50% marks will be compulsory for those candidates who have passed MA/equivalent degree in English Language and Literature under Annual/ Term System of examination instead of 1st division in MA/equivalent degree.
  6. GAT-General (NTS)/ Equivalent with minimum 50% cumulative score

Merit determination criteria

  1.  40% weightage shall be given to the aggregate of marks all examinations from SSC/equivalent to A/M.Sc./Equivalent as per following formula:
  2. Marks %age in SSC/equivalent x 1 = A
  3. Marks %age in HSSC/equivalent x 2= B
  4. Marks %age in BA/B.Sc/equivalent x 3 = C
  5. Marks %age in MA/M.Sc/equivalent x 4 = D
  6. Aggregate = A+B+C+D
  7. 30% weight will be given to the performances in the interview conducted by the Departmental Academic Committee (DAC) of the relevant department.
  8. 30% weight will be given to the test equivalent to GAT/ GRE. Note: In case of MPhil/MS, in Education, the marks of B.Ed (1 year) and M.Ed (1 year) shall be added for getting the percentage of marks at par MA/MSc.
