The Kohat University of Science and Technology (KUST) is a public university located
at Kohat District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. It was established in 2001. The university
was inaugurated by the Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Lt. Gen. Syed Iftikhar Hussain
Shah(late). KUST attained the status of degree-awarding institution vide NWFP ordinance
No. XXIII of 2001 and the subsequent notification No. Legis: 1 (12) 2001/4451-56, of
August 30, 2001.
The university was founded with four institutes - Institute of Information Technology,
Institute of Management Sciences, Institute of Education and Research and Department of
Microbiology. These offered two-year and four-year bachelor degrees and two-year master
degrees in 2004. Later on, the university was expanded by establishing different departments
as per need of the Market. These departments offer B.S. (Hons.), M.Sc., M.Phil. and Ph.D.
degree programs and Department of Islamic Studies is one of them.
In fact that our society and country is in a dire need of such high-minded scholars and
experts, who besides having potent knowledge of Islam, bear the capacity of facing the
challenges of the modern age, dealing effectively with the emerging demands, and hold the
perception of future prudence. To accomplish the said glorious purpose, Department of
Islamic Studies (DIS) of Kohat University of Science & Technology is striving hard to play
its vital role. DIS utilizes all its available resources in producing scholars in the fields of
Quran, Hadith, Islamic Theology and Jurisprudence, who according to the new trends and
disposition of the modern age, equip themselves with the capabilities to interpret & elucidate
Islam and different off-shoots of Islamic knowledge. For this magnificent purpose DIS,
besides its teaching activities, introduces M.Phil and PhD programs in Islamic Studies for the
professional growth of scholars in the field of research to establish a cadre of specialists and
professionals in different fields of Religious Education who can provide effective leadership
through quality research in various disciplines of Islamic Studies.
Keeping in view the vision & mission of the KUST and said scenario, Department of
Islamic Studies, KUST aims to expand the footprints of Religious Education/Trainings and
all sort of academic activities with different Educational Institutions, Government Bodies and
Boeards like Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, Directorate of hajj,
Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa emphasizing mainly on the Trainings of intending pilgrims
(عازمین حج) belonging to District Kohat, Lachi and Hangu.

District Kohat is the Hub of all southern Districts and fine accessible for other districts as
well.DIS has a vast experience of training of Imam Masjid, Khateeb and Madrassa
teachers of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in collaboration with Pakistan Education Foundation
(PEF). The same services can further be refined and made vibrant with the bilateral
utilization of resources by the DIS KUST and directorate of hajj, Peshawar.

The Department of Islamic Studies feels honour to engage in one of the most sensitive
issue i.e. understanding of law of Blasphemy and its awareness across the country in
general and particularly in Province Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for ensuring peace & harmony
in the country.
5. Refresher Courses about Parenting as a System of Living, Protection of
Children, Women and Minorities Rights in the light of Shariah (Islamic law)
Keeping in view the societal values & Norms there is dire need to work on the above
areas.
6. Certificate Courses about Islamic Finance
The Department of Islamic Studies has previous practices of conduction of Islamic
Finance Courses and this activity can be flourished in collaboration with your kind
Institute.
7. Short Courses about World Religions, Intra & Interfaith synchronization
For ensuring peace and harmony across the globe, we the academicians need to emphasis
to promote research and learning activities on the above mentioned areas.
8. Certificate Courses about World Languages like Arabic
Languages play a prominent role in understanding the cultural norms of one another. So
in collaboration with Max Planck Institute of Germany, roadmap may be created.
