On behalf of faculty, staff and students, I welcome everyone to the Department of Sociology, KUST.
The Department of Sociology provides an excellent environment for teaching, research, and fieldwork. This department enables its students to work for society and its various segments, treating people with dignity and respect, addressing and solving various social problems, and understanding various communities, cultures, groups, and social processes.
Keeping in view our programs (i.e BS and MPhil) are designed in such a way that these meet various needs such as academic, research, critical, and analytical thinking. We offer rigorous programs that enable students to develop their intellectual, social, and professional skills. Once a student learns sociology and its perspective, and qualitative and quantitative skills, he/she becomes able to understand how, why, and what of a society.
The students of this department not only acquire classroom training but also theoretical and practical exposure in terms of fieldwork, research, exposure trips, seminars, and workshops. Thus, a graduate of sociology can find his/her job in various national and international organizations. He/she can work as a lecturer at University or college level, various competitive examinations, probation department, Health Department, Forest Department, Social Welfare Department, and Higher Education Department. The role in any non-governmental organization includes field offices, research assistants, surveyors, gender development, and monitoring and evaluation officer.
Last but not least, The Department of sociology believes in equality and fair treatment of all individuals, and merit and encourages a dynamic and friendly environment that promotes teaching, learning, and mutual respect.
